Hi!

Welcome to This Barnes Life. We love to travel and explore this wonderful planet with our kids! We hope you find inspiration for your next travel destination :)

Queensland, Australia

Queensland, Australia

Life in Queensland….

There’s no place like home!! Part of me always thought that would be Sydney!

I never actually thought i’d make the move. I’ve grown up in Sydney my whole life. My best friend of 29 years, Mel, has been trying to convince me to move to QLD for a very, very long time!

Jackie, my husband played a music festival 2 years ago in the sunshine state and we randomly decided to browse houses online… The next day we started going to open homes.. and it clicked for us. We could move out of our shoebox apartment in Sydney to a house in Brisbane with a backyard! No brainer! More space, better quality air, no traffic and best of all … unlimited outdoor activities for the girls!

There’s tonnes of gorgeous beaches north and south of us, a butterfly farm, massive theme parks, Australia Zoo (best zoo experience hands down) and the stunning Noosa National Park!

If you’re planning on visiting Australia, please don’t leave Queensland out…. you will regret it!

Hastings Street, behind the beachfront is where you can walk around Noosa’s best fashion shops. There are high-end designer shops, local labels, beachwear, and my favourite’s - Seed Heritage, Witchery and Alterior Motif. There’s tonnes of great cafes to sit and eat a nice meal, or to grab take away and sit on the beach and bask in the sunshine!

If you love walking it’s 100% worth exploring the coastline along Noosa National Park. From the main beach you can very easily walk along to Little Cove Beach. There’s also a carpark and toilet facilities right before you head into the National Park.

It’s about 15mins walk to Tea Tree Bay, which is a stunning little beach (also toilet facilities here)

It’s pram friendly up until about Dolphin Point Lookout and then it turns into a narrow dirt track. I still pushed my stroller along here, but it’s quite bumpy in parts, i don’t recommend it!

Granite Bay is great for older adventurous kids who might enjoy climbing the large boulders and rocks next to the beach. After Granite Bay are the Fairy Pools which are two extremely popular natural tidal swimming pools. It’s best to check the low tides online before hand and try to visit at low tide or close to low tide if you wish to swim in them. I have not made it that far along the walk, it was a hot day and the kids became a little tired, so we turned around! I’ll definitely do a blog post on them when i make it out there one day!
