Athens, Greece
A vibrant city rich in fascinating history, culture and amazing food!
We only had three nights, but in that brief stay… i fell in love with Greece.
Fascinating is an understatement.. i was in complete awe of the incredible ancient architecture.
We were lucky enough to stay at a friends apartment in Psyrri. This area of Athens is home to many antique shops, bars, cafes and great restaurants. It’s colourful and trendy. We had some of the best food here… in fact… every meal we had in Athens was delicious!
Little Kook is in Psyrri. It’s an awesome cafe serving cakes and tea, but their decorations bring the crowds. It’s hard to even explain… we were there at Christmas time so the lights and display were spectacular! The kids had such a fun time taking it all in.
Here’s my list of things you must see and do in Athens
Acropolis (no brainer really!)
Acropolis museum
Plaka (the old town) and Anafiotika (White Island style homes)
Walk around Psyrri and Monastiraki
Ok, so we found this absolute gem of a restaurant in Athens. En Iordani. We walked past it one day, tried it, and kept going back it was so damn good! It’s authentic comfort Greek food. We had fish with rice, chicken w/ potatoes, baked beans, amazing moussaka and the best eggplant dish i’ve ever had in my life! The girls loved it to! It’s extremely affordable and i’m not surprised it has a 5 star rating on Tripadvisor. This is the kind of food you dream of for years after eating it. I tried to make the eggplant dish at home one night… it was close, but obviously not the same. My guess is that this restaurant has probably been cooking their family recipe that’s been passed down generation to generation. When you eat food at a place like this you know it’s cooked with love, which makes it even more delicious. :)
